On the island of Ven, located between Denmark and Sweden on the Oresund Strait, are the remains of Uraniborg, the castle was built by the famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.

By the late sixteenth century, a famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe built a castle (Uraniborg) on the island of Ven to be used as an observatory.

Uraniborg became a research and study center which grew to more than 40 astronomers working at facilities. .Later Brahe decided to build Stjernborg (castle of the stars), an underground observatory that allowed to obtain more accurate astronomical measurements.

Stjernborg The observatory was completed in 1584, making it the first astronomical observatory created exclusively for accurately measuring the positions of stars and the orbits of the planets.

1950 Archaeological excavations revealed the remains of the observatory buildings and the reconstruction of the upper complex.
