
It is the largest urban center in Scandinavia. Copenhagen is a city of copper roofs and towers with needles, was founded in 1167. It has many old buildings, fountains, statues and squares, as well as the unique Little Mermaid at the entrance of the port. There are many tours available that take you to see the most famous attractions. These include a tour to the Viking Ship Museum, a royal tour that will take you to Christiansborg Palace (seat of parliament) and the palaces of Rosenborg and Amalienborg, a tour bus to the ancient and museum Bondebyen outdoors, and even tour a brewery, which produces the famous Carlsberg. Tivoli, the world famous Copenhagen amusement park, open from late April to mid-September and during the holiday season. Bekken worth visiting (in the deer park north of Copenhagen) and Charlottenlund Aquarium.
Outside the city, in the province of Zeeland, find sandy beaches, lakes, forests and royal palaces. Sjaelland find excellent beaches, particularly in the north of the island.
Other sites worth a visit are Slagelse, Nastved and Frederikssund. The ancient fortress of Kronborg, famous not only for being the most imposing building in Scandinavia but also as the setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, is located in Helsingor (Elsinore). Frederiksbor Castle, equally impressive, is located in Hillerod, which serves as home to the Museum of Natural History. Be sure to visit Roskilde Cathedral, built in the twelfth century and the Viking Museum. In Skjoldenasholm can visit the interesting Museum of the Streetcar.
