The autonomy referendum extending Greenland is already a fact, and therefore recognizes the right to self-determination of the territory of Denmark, with a total of 75.54% of the votes after the counting of votes.

The advisory referendum must be ratified by the parliaments of Nuuk and Copenhagen but already there is a settlement in which the political forces agreed to respect the result.

The new regulations will take effect from and after June 2009 to coincide with the completion of the 30 years of autonomy Greenland. In addition, as would be two areas that are recognized as autonomous by the Danish kingdom, the first of the Faroe Islands in 2005.

Among the new powers will include prison policy Greenland, police, border control, air transport and foreign nationals, which will be controlled by the authorities of Nuuk once assume the conditions of the statute.

The Danish control exercised will remain in the areas of constitution, nationality, Supreme Court, defense and security, monetary and exchange rate policy and foreign policy.
