Denmark

Update: September 17th, 2009

Denmark is the smallest of the Scandinavian countries and is located in northern Europe, northern Germany. Its territory comprises the peninsula of Jutland and 406 islands, with very different sizes, 100 rooms and the remaining unoccupied.

The geographical division of Denmark can be synthesized in the peninsula of Jutland and the islands of Selandia, Fionia, Llolland and Bornholm. No mountains but varied landscapes of forests, lakes, small rivers and beautiful beaches. It has 7500 kilometers of coastline, bathed by the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The longest river is Gudenåen, across Jutland to the Randers Fjord on the west.

Greenland, the largest island in the world, and the Faroe Islands are under Danish sovereignty. Greenland is autonomous since 1979 and the Danish government powers only in matters of defense and foreign policy. Greenlanders are Danish citizens but do not belong to the EU.

The main cities in Denmark are:

  • Copenhagen: the capital on the island of Selandia.
  • Aarhus: Denmark’s second city and main academic focus, in Jutland. Aalborg in Jutland as well. He has an impressive Linholm Hoje Viking cemetery with 682 graves in the form of a boat and runic stones in Jelling, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
  • Borholm: island in the Baltic, the main holiday destination.
  • Koge: historic town south of Copenhagen.
  • Roskilde, another historic town. Are buried in the cathedral 38 Danish kings. A 32 kilometers east of Copenhagen.

The best way to initiate conversation with Denmark is a danish. Probably turn to you before giving you the opportunity to ask for a street. They are educated, open, hospitable and with a great sense of humor. Love your mermaid and its creator Hans Christian Andersen. They love beer, good food, relaxed life …

The Danes, who love art and culture, boast the largest number of museums throughout Europe (in relation to population size).

Copenhagen, the capital, is full of vitality, day and night. Walking through its streets highlight its magnificent architecture, with buildings painted in garish colors. Copenhagen is very attractive, but it would be a shame to miss around Selandia.
